Faith Based Partners

In support of Money Smart Week, Pastors will commit to delivering a Unified Message of Family Financial Empowerment on Sunday, April 19th.  The purpose of the Unified Message is to draw statewide attention to the importance of working intentionally to support families in making solid financial decisions.  With more than 100 individuals in attendance, we are excited about the collective impact that a unified message of financial empowerment will bring.
Together, we can create a strategy of financial empowerment for St. Louis families and continue to decrease the number of unbanked and under-banked households in the St. Louis area.  To date, the work of the Task Force through its’ Bank-On Save-Up St. Louis Initiative has made over a $4 million dollar impact on the St. Louis economy, by providing financial education and removing barriers to opening bank accounts.     “Having a bank account is often the first step to full participation in the financial mainstream, saving for future goals, purchasing a home, or wealth building, said Veta Jefferies.”

According to 2011 FDIC data, 111,000 residents in the St. Louis Metro area do not have bank accounts, 31% are African American – making us the third largest number of unbanked African American households in the country! The community is affected by foreclosures, unemployment, health care disparities, and poverty, as they all threaten the very fiber of our nation. Large amounts of personal debt compounded by overuse of credit cards as well as other unhealthy financial practices must stop.

Join the Bank-On Save-Up St. Louis’ Faith Based Connections Outreach Committee so we can work together to create solutions that will provide financial education and empower families to improve their financial futures.
